Are You Suffering From Post Traumatic Stress Disorder?
Do you regularly relive or re-experience traumatic events to the point you are unable to carry out daily activities or sleep?
If so, you might be suffering from PTSD – and we’re here to help. In the UK, it is estimated to affect 30% of people who have a traumatic experience. PTSD can make us feel trapped, get in the way of our personal lives, and cause us feelings of panic or extreme fear.
Your career may suffer, your physical health may begin to deteriorate and, at times, you can feel absolutely powerless.
You might try to dismiss your traumatic thoughts, but they continue to get worse. This isn’t your fault – you’re struggling with a severe mental health condition which requires professional help. At Kedras Clinics, we offer a range of compassionate clinically-proven treatments for PTSD.
Understanding the Symptoms of PTSD
Trauma is the Greek word for “wound”. There are varying definitions of what trauma actually is, but broadly it refers to events or circumstances experienced as harmful or life-threatening with lasting impacts on mental, physical, emotional, and/or social well-being. Trauma can be a single event or multiple events compounded over time.
PTSD is associated with three distinct categories of symptoms: hyperarousal symptoms which include panic attacks, being too vigilant (always on guard), and being easily alarmed or startled; re-experiencing symptoms which can be extremely distressing and include having vivid dreams and flashbacks of the horrific event; and avoidance symptoms which include avoiding situations that could trigger memories of the incident.
The impact of trauma can be significant leading to issues of interpersonal trust, intimacy deficits, dissociation, confusion, sense of helplessness and hopelessness, betrayal and an intense sense of shame and loss, amongst others. After experiencing trauma, the relationship with existence itself can be shattered. You may become isolated, viewing the world and people as dangerous.
“I had been through numerous types of therapy in the past with varying degrees of success, but this is the first time that therapy has got to the root of the problem. This has been made possible by the innovative approach at Kedras Clinics and the techniques they use”.
